What happens when a Belgian public holiday falls on a weekend?

Employees are legally entitled to a replacement day (jour de remplacement / vervangingsdag), but the date is set by the sector, the company, or individual agreement rather than nationally. In 2026 this applies to Assumption Day (Saturday, 15 August) and All Saints' Day (Sunday, 1 November); many employers default the replacement to the nearest working day.

Are the community festival days Belgian public holidays?

No. The festival days of the language communities — such as the Flemish Community Day (11 July) and the French Community Day (27 September) — are days off mainly for community public services and are not among the ten legal public holidays for all employees.
