The Ley Emiliani (Law 51 of 1983) moves twelve holidays to the following Monday whenever they fall on another weekday, creating Colombia's famous 'puentes' (long weekends). In 2026, nine holidays were moved — for example Epiphany from 6 to 12 January and the Assumption from 15 to 17 August — while Sts Peter and Paul (29 June) and Día de la Raza (12 October) already fell on Mondays.
Ley 2578, sanctioned on 1 June 2026, created a new national holiday honouring the Virgin of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá (9 July), effective immediately. As an Emiliani holiday it moved to Monday 13 July in 2026, raising the year's total from 18 to 19.
